I say "modern" because I don't really fit the old stereotype because I shave my legs, shower regularly, wear makeup, eat meat, and vote. I do subscribe to a crunchy emagazine, eat local, seasonal, and organic, choose herbal remedies over conventional medicine, cloth diapered my child when he was a baby, make my own cloth napkins, and some other tree huggerish type of stuff, so if that makes me a hippie I'm coolio with that.
I was driving to work one day in my Subaru wagon (see? I told you.) and an old Green Day song came on the radio. It brought back a wave of apathy that I remember all too well from my early 20's. I started thinking Boy, have I come a long way since those drinking, smoking, eating pizza and beer for breakfast, lunch, and dinner days of not giving a poop about anything but my own desire to feel good. I wonder if the other Generation Xers are just as responsible as I am now that we are older? Full time jobs, kids, spouses, eating sensibly, exercising regularly, paying our taxes, caring about the environment. Caring about anything. When, in the last many years, did I suddenly become an adult?
Needless to say, I did feel some nostalgia for the days of Up Yours World when that Breakfast Club song came on next...you know the one...Simple Minds' - Don't You Forget About Me.
I guess at some point in your life you have to stop dressing like a skater chick/goth girl or people will just shake their heads sadly at you. It's no longer socially acceptable to not give a crap after your mid-twenties. And apparently I now care what society thinks. Or at least feel like I should be a productive member.
So yeah, I've jumped on the blog wagon. What the heck. *shrug* I've got things to say and the narcissistic exhibitionist in all of us hopes others will spend a few minutes of their own valuable time listening.
If you're wondering if this blog is going to be about anything, it will. I'm going to try and stick to my crunchy side. But I give myself full license to deviate from the topic at any time as that's just how my brain works. And how else will you get my point of view without a little background?
Anyway, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read this. Feel free to leave a comment or not, I don't really care. *wink*
