Looking for an easy way to organize your kitchen or home and reduce clutter?
Why not add a DIY chalkboard to the inside of your cupboard! This is super easy. As you can see, we use ours for meal planning, but really the possibilities are endless...grocery list, chores list, To Do, Honey Do list, vacation planing, important dates, behavior chart, etc.
I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post.
You can paint this two ways...
1. Make your own chalkboard paint. The benefit to this method is that you can make the paint color any color you want to!
To make you own chalkboard paint:
Mix 1 cup of any color of flat, latex paint with 2 tablespoons of non-sanded tile grout. (You can even use an organic, no VOC paint like ECOS Paints.)
That's it! Super easy.
2. Buy it. The other method (that limits your color choices, but you also don't have to mess with tile grout) is to buy the paint already mixed from your local Home Improvement store or online from places like Amazon. The benefit to this method is that you can buy it in a jar or spray can (not so good for the environment), and in smaller quantities. There are even rolls of chalkboard contact sheets available, but if you've ever tried putting down contact paper, it definitely takes a bit of finesse to get it down perfectly and without bubbles.
How ever you obtain it, paint on your surface of choice (after wiping it down and drying of course!). I did a few coats for full coverage, but it dries pretty quickly. Once it's dry, it's good to take a piece of chalk and color over the whole surface once, then wipe off with a damp cloth before using it for the first time. This "seasons" it.
Organization rocks!
